PTA Newsletter | No. 23

Dear BNS Families,

This weekend, we had a great time  playing games and raising funds at Our Warrior Foundation Carnival Fundraiser for Brain Tumor Awareness. The event followed the 2022 BNS Band Share, where a great many students came together to play original songs and favorites on flutes, violins, snare drums, trombones, saxophones, cellos, ukuleles and more. What a wonderful celebration! A big thank you to Rima and Sarah for your incredible effort.

Remember: We're always here for you! Reach out to your PTA presidents with questions, concerns or feedback (richambler@gmail.com and mahshad.vakili@gmail.com).

Sincerely,
Your BNS PTA

We'll continue posting this call for volunteers through the end of this year and beginning again in September.

NYC is Now at a COVID-19 High (Orange) Alert Level

Due to recent increases in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in New York City, the city is now at a COVID-19 high (orange) alert level. This means there is significant spread of COVID-19 in the city. We urge you to take the following proven precautions to protect your family and our communities:

  • Wear a mask. We recommend that everyone age 2 and older wear a well-fitting mask in all public indoor settings, including at school, even if not required.

  • Get vaccinated and boosted. Everyone age 5 and older should get vaccinated against COVID-19, including getting a booster shot when eligible. Find out where: nyc.gov/vaccinefinder or by calling 877-VAX-4NYC (877-829-4692).

  • Stay home when sick. Everyone should stay home if they are sick or test positive for COVID-19 and follow all guidance, including wearing a well-fitting face mask for 10 days.

  • Get tested. To find a testing site, visit nyc.gov/covidtest(Open external link). Testing is free at many sites.

  • Consider other precautions, such as avoiding crowds, limiting gatherings to a small number of people, increasing ventilation, and wearing a higher quality mask.

Please Take the BNS Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council Survey

The DEI Council launched in 2019 and a lot of progress has been made thus far. As we continue to think about the future, we’d like your input to ensure we are creating a DEI Council that is diverse and the initiatives and solutions that are inclusive, equitable and impactful. Please take this quick survey by clicking here to help in this process--and thanks to those of you who have already done so.

Consider Showing Support for the D15 and BCS Consortium Superintendents

BNS and BCS share a mission and vision of what public education can be, and we’ve built it at 610 Henry.  We also share this moment of transition to a new mayor and schools chancellor.  Our D15 superintendent, Anita Skop, and the BCS Consortium superintendent, Alan Cheng, are being asked by the Chancellor to reapply for their positions during this critical time.  Below is more information about our superintendents and what you can do to support them both: Read more about Anita Skop and Alan Cheng
