City Harvest Food Drive

Penina, Lindsay/Damaris's class, and Renee's class are organizing a food drive for City Harvest. You can send in sealed, non-perishable, non-expired food items in good condition until Monday 12/19.  The most needed items are cereal, oatmeal, pasta, boxed macaroni and cheese, canned fruits and vegetables, canned fish and meat, canned beans, soup, and juice boxes. When children bring the items to school, they can take them to Lindsay and Damaris’ room (323) or Renee’s room (308B). Thank you!

 Movie Night Was a Hit!

Our first Movie Night - in years! - was a great success! The kids were so excited! Seeing the looks on their faces was so heartwarming. There may have even been a few happy tears shed. Thanks to all the volunteers and staff who made it happen! Our next one will be January 20! Get your tickets when they drop because this one SOLD OUT! (Volunteers get free reserved tickets and pizza for their entire families!)

This year the PTA is giving every family a very special gift - look out for yours, either in person at school or in the mail!

Holiday Giving and Appreciation

Please consider donating to a grade-wide pool as a way of showing appreciation to our amazing teachers. Teachers will share this money equitably and use it to purchase supplies or a needed item for their classroom.

This year, we are providing two links for contributions:

  1. For Konstella Users (parents and members of the BNS community)
  1. For people not in the school community, e.g. grandparents and neighbors

This will make giving easier and it will enable an equitable distribution of funds to each class.  Give to your level of comfort; a contribution between $1 – $50 per family will help our educators and kids have what they need in their classrooms this winter and spring.

Families can also send cash or check in an envelope labeled “holiday gift” to school, via backpack mail and your child’s teacher will pass it on to their class parent. It is also ok to USPS mail a check to the School.

Finally, please feel free to send all the educators in your classroom lots of holiday love through drawings and notes from our children- this is a time of year to share our thanks, and our kids are the best ones to do it!

Do not hesitate to reach out to your class parent with any questions you may have.

BNS Needs Towels for the Swim Program

Do you have any gently used clean towels to give away ? Please consider donating them  for our BNS Swim program.  Towels can be dropped off in the main office, room 207.

Lost and Found Volunteers Needed

We are looking for volunteers to take 5-10 minutes on Wednesdays and Fridays either am or pm to spruce up the content of the Lost and Found shed. You can volunteer directly on the Lost&Found Social group on Konstella for a single week or multiple weeks.

Social Media

BNS is on Social Media! Follow us and stay informed on all BNS happenings. Find us on Instagram (@thebrooklynnewschool) and Facebook (TheBrooklynNewSchool). We are always looking to source and post great photos of your kids involved with BNS activities, so feel free to email them anytime to the Social Media Team: Photos@bns146.org.

DOE's School COVID Policy

If your child tests positive for COVID, please email dandm@bns146.org as soon as possible.  Anyone who tests positive needs to stay home for at least 5 days after the positive test or start of symptoms.  Anyone who tests positive must have improved symptoms and must continue to wear a mask through day 10.

BNS will notify all families in a class impacted by a case, whether a student or a staff member tests positive.  We will also send home 2 home test kits with each member of the classroom.  Current DOE/DOH policy prompts families to test children on day 4 and day 5 after exposure.  Children do not need to stay home after exposure as long as they are symptom-free.  It is strongly recommended that anyone exposed to COVID wear a mask for 10 days after exposure.

You can check the DOE's COVID Safety website for updates about these policies:
