Standardized testing season is coming up soon! Will your family opt out? Info Session Tuesday 3/14

The time has come for each 3rd-5th grade family to make a choice about whether their child will take the New York State English Language Arts and Math exams. All parents have the right to refuse these state tests. In previous years, over 90% of BNS parents have chosen to refuse or opt their children out of the tests. Those choices have empowered BNS teachers to engage in the kind of inquiry and project-based learning that we all know and love. If you would like to opt your child out, please fill out this form. For more information, go to the Parent Action Committee page on the BNS website or attend this meeting (below). To register: https://tinyurl.com/nystest

DOE's School COVID Policy

If your child tests positive for COVID, please email dandm@bns146.org as soon as possible.  Anyone who tests positive needs to stay home for at least 5 days after the positive test or start of symptoms.  Anyone who tests positive must have improved symptoms and must continue to wear a mask through day 10.

BNS will notify all families in a class impacted by a case, whether a student or a staff member tests positive.  We will also send home 2 home test kits with each member of the classroom.  Current DOE/DOH policy prompts families to test children on day 4 and day 5 after exposure.  Children do not need to stay home after exposure as long as they are symptom-free.  It is strongly recommended that anyone exposed to COVID wear a mask for 10 days after exposure.

You can check the DOE's COVID Safety website for updates about these policies:
