As we go into the mid-Winter recess, we are sharing with you a newsletter full of helpful reminders, opportunities to get involved and some asks to support our PTA's great work at school. Please join us for our next PTA meeting this Tuesday 2/28 at 8:30 a.m. in the Art Room.  Also,  a reminder to all: The NYC School Survey needs to be completed by each family. by March 31st.  More information here.

D15 CEC Meeting Tuesday  February 28th 6:30 p.m.

 

Please join CEC15 for our February Calendar Meeting: Tuesday, Feb 28th at 6:30 pm. This meeting will be held in person at P.S. 146 - 610 Henry Street, Room, Auditorium.  Interpretation will be provided in Mandarin, Spanish and Bangla via phone, for all participants. A zoom link is provided below for members of our community who wish to attend via teleconference. Learn more about the Fair Student Funding formula the DOE uses to fund our schools!

Third Grade PBAs start this Wednesday March 1st

 

This Wednesday, our third grade Performance Based Assessment Panel, or PBAs, will start!  They will last through the following Wednesday.

Lost and Found Shed Clean-Up Friday March 3rd

 

Parent volunteers will be doing another round of Lost & Found shed clean-up Friday March 3rd - to volunteer, go to Konstella group or email Catherine at cath.hell@gmail.com.

BNS Farm Stand March 8th - Help Out!

 

The Green Committee needs help putting out flyers, setting up the veggies, and packing up afterwards. Great fun! Great veggies! Contact Nili Ohayon for more info.

 

Half Day Thursday March 9th for Parent-Teacher Conferences

 
Thursday, March 9th there will be a half-day for parent-teacher conferences. Students will be dismissed at 11:30, which is also when buses will leave. Be on the lookout for a half-day program sign-up sheet from BNS after-school.

Movie Night Friday March 10th!

 

Movie Night is back Friday March 10! Get your tickets today for the movie Inside Out before they SELL OUT! Drop off, attend direct from Aftercare, or come together with the whole family! Only kids currently enrolled in BNS can be dropped off and only kids enrolled in Aftercare can attend direct from Aftercare at 5:30pm.  Siblings and friends are all welcome when accompanied by an adult. Pizza and popcorn are included and tickets are pay what you can afford - all proceeds cover costs and benefit our PTA to provide funding for your child's education! Pick up is 7:30pm SHARP.

We still need volunteers for movie night 3/10.

Spring Auction Organizing - Can you help solicit donations?

 

Our Spring Auction gala is a great fundraising event, but  we need to get donations! Is there a restaurant, store, or other venue near you that you could ask for a donation? You can find the donation form here, along with some suggestions for donations. You can also contact Christian Leue, PTA co-president, if you can help organize the event (find a venue, plan refreshments, invite a DJ, etc.). 

Picture Day is Coming Up March 14-15!

 

We need help wrangling kids as classes come and go from the gym all day. Volunteer for one or both days. Contact Amelia McKenzie for more info.

  

Read-A-Thon Organizing Team

 

Let's have a starter read-a-thon for the lower grades. Help us plan this new reading and fundraising effort. Contact Elena Tate for more info.

Makerfest is Coming March 25th 2023!

 
Makerfest is back and better than ever 3/25 and will include an Inventor Lab from KoKoNYC (kokonyc.org), Chocolate Making with Mixteca (mixteca.org), Robotics Team, Mason Jar Lanterns, Scribblebots, Button Making, Jewelry Making, Journal Making and Decorating, Slime, Legos, Fibonacci Lemonade, Crafting with Heat Tool and Embossing Powder, Alteration/Labeling Station, Face Painting, Hair Extensions, Photo Booth, Runway and a special Crochet Project for the school yard fence plus a massive Kids and Adults Clothing Swap! 
Everything is pay what you can afford - Get your tickets now to help us order enough supplies!

 

DOE's School COVID Policy
 
If your child tests positive for COVID, please email dandm@bns146.org as soon as possible.  Anyone who tests positive needs to stay home for at least 5 days after the positive test or start of symptoms.  Anyone who tests positive must have improved symptoms and must continue to wear a mask through day 10. 
 
BNS will notify all families in a class impacted by a case, whether a student or a staff member tests positive.  We will also send home 2 home test kits with each member of the classroom.  Current DOE/DOH policy prompts families to test children on day 4 and day 5 after exposure.  Children do not need to stay home after exposure as long as they are symptom-free.  It is strongly recommended that anyone exposed to COVID wear a mask for 10 days after exposure.
