The Education Divide
“The Education Divide”, featuring our school, was shot and edited by Lachlan Rudd (‘25), a rising junior at Poly Prep as of Summer 2023.
From Lachlan: “Specifically how a child’s circumstances, where in NYC they live, how much money their parents make, and other issues affect and determine where the child goes to school. All NYC schools are not created equal. Some are resource packed, diverse, integrated and welcoming. Others lack the resources, diversity and experienced teachers. This plays a huge role into how a child perceives their school experience as well as how much they learn. I highlight BNS in my film as an example or model for what an ideal school is to all kids. One where anyone can go, not just kids in district 15, and one with “child based” learning. The goal of my film is to push awareness and action so that everyone in NYC has access to an equitable education with equal opportunity at a young age.”
The production of this film took place in a NYC-based history class at Poly Prep Country Day School during the spring of the 2022-23 school year.
