Changemakers Of Our World

Dear Families,

It’s been another busy series of weeks at BNS!  Check out some highlights and upcoming events below.

We are happy to announce our new website (still at bns146.org) is live! A huge thank you to our website committee who worked tirelessly to revamp our website and bring us the new and improved hub of BNS information.

Mathematicians at work! Second graders are using math tools to think about and make sense of numbers. Please join us for an interactive math workshop that will help deepen understanding of how math work is approached at BNS.

Check out this feature from BCS’ instagram highlighting a lovely moment of 610 Henry ingenuity!

The Fourth Grade Musical days 1 & 2 were beautiful and moving experiences this week! It showed the resilience of our young people who were ready to come back strong and show us just how much they are ready to be the future leaders and changemakers of our world.

When they weren’t singing and dancing, fourth graders created murals to depict the life of Indigenous people who lived (and still live) in this area. Each mural reflects the class that created it. Under the murals are QR codes which take you to the student’s research.

This mural represents the beavers doing their work in the waterways. They were revered by the Lenape of Manahatta. The beavers and their dams were the protectors of the waterways and are the symbol being used by our fourth graders as water protectors. Please see the link for Riverkeeper, where we encourage you to donate to the cause. Riverkeeper.

These murals and the QR codes are displayed in the hallway near the auditorium. Perhaps you’ll be able to sign up to volunteer (here) for a 5th grade PBA panel (here) this week or next, and check these out on your way upstairs.

On Friday, while our fourth graders celebrated their musical coming to a close with a breakfast cast party on Rapelye St, our fifth graders hosted the 5th grade Mayan museum in their classrooms, for their families and staff. While we couldn’t yet open this share up to our whole community, the PBAs mentioned above give families in grades PreK through four an opportunity to learn more about the fifth grade research and project work. We encourage you to sign up to see into the future for your little ones! It’s a great experience.

It has been a treat and a gift to have so much energy and joy in our classrooms, halls, and community spaces this month.  We are grateful for the chances to come together, celebrating the hard work and deep thinking of our young people.  There’s much more to come as the Spring continues!

Until next week,

D&M
