2022 BNS Read-A-Thon

Join your BNS friends to help raise money for all of the BNS programs you love!

Here is how it works —

Collect sponsors who will pledge you money for each minute you read. March 13 – April 2.

Come to the BOOK SWAP to get new books to read for the next week. April 2 from 10 AM to 1 PM. At the Prospect Park Bandshell Area.

READ-A-THON! Read as much as you can! April 2 - 15.

Count up the total minutes that you read. April 16.

Collect your donations from your sponsors! April 16 - 30.

STEP BY STEP

1. COLLECT SPONSORS. March 13 - April 2.

Call or email friends and family to ask them to sponsor pledges per minute you read. Use this sample email or this sample phone script to help you out. When your sponsors agree, keep track of their pledge information on this Sponsor Sign Up Sheet.

2. READ-A-THON. READ AS MUCH AS YOU CAN! April 2 - April 15.

Keep track of your minutes EVERY TIME you read on the Pre-K – 1st Grade Reading Log or 2nd – 5th Grade Reading Log.  If you want to get fancy, make a copy of this spreadsheet, input your minutes spent reading or being read to and pledge info and see all the math it does for you.

3. COLLECT DONATIONS. April 16 - April 30.

Contact your sponsors to let them know how much you read and how much they owe you! This money collection email sample or this phone script will help you.

4. DONATIONS DUE. April 30.

Make sure your sponsors have donated. And don’t forget to thank them! They can donate online or through a check sent to school.

PRO TIPS:

  • Hang up the handy Fridge Calendar or take a screenshot to remind yourself of important dates.

  • Come to one of our parent-organized Book Swaps on April 2 (10 AM - 1 PM) (Prospect Park Bandshell area) to freshen up your home library before the Read-a-Thon begins.
