PTA

Welcome to the Brooklyn New School PTA! Every parent/guardian of a child who attends BNS is a member of the BNS PTA. You don’t have to join because you’re already an essential part of it.

Who are we?

The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of Brooklyn New School (PS146) is a collaboration among parents, staff, and administration within our school community.

What does the PTA do?

The PTA serves a vital fundraising and community-building role for our school. Through our collective efforts, the PTA provides funding for various programs that enrich our students’ lives and help make our school what it is, including science, the farm, Brooklyn Arts Exchange, and teacher training. We do this through scheduled events throughout the year that help raise money and strengthen our community.

How can you get involved?

Your time and your donations are what make this possible. We ask each family to give what they can toward this amount, large or small. Our goal is 100% participation! Learn more about how you can donate monetarily or by volunteering. To join the PTA, contact the PTA committee at pta2017@bns146.org.

Did you know? In 2018-2019, the PTA will spend $550/per child to support learning at Brooklyn New School.

When does the PTA meet?

The PTA meets monthly and all parents are welcome and encouraged to attend. In addition, the executive committee of the PTA meets once a month to help facilitate all the work that needs to be done. Check the BNS calendar for a full list of PTA dates.

How can you find out what’s happening?

All you have to do to stay up to date with what’s going on with the PTA is to check the weekly newsletter. It’s sent out every Sunday, and it lists PTA meetings and lots of other ways you can get involved.

Not getting the weekly newsletter? Check your Promotions folder or subscribe here.

Building our community

Not only are our events an important part of the PTA’s fundraising activities, PTA events also bring our community together in fun ways so everyone associated with BNS can show their support for our children and their teachers and be a part of something bigger. Your participation helps our children and our community grow!

Follow the PTA newsletter and school calendar to keep track of everything that’s going on.

  • Applefest – BNS’ annual fall festival. This event kicks off our season of fundraising and community building by collaborating with BCS to throw a huge block party.
  • Movie Nights – Drop the kids off at school for dinner and a movie while you get a few hours of Friday night free time to yourself.
  • Makerfest – This annual event brings together parents and educators to create an afternoon of technology, crafting, creating, exploring and inventing for our students.
  • Spring Dance and Silent Auction (“BNS Bid Bash”) – Kick up your heels at our biggest fundraiser of the year, with dancing, dining and shopping, all in one place.
