Welcome to the Brooklyn New School PTA! Every parent/guardian of a child who attends BNS is a member of the BNS PTA. You don’t have to join because you’re already an essential part of it.

Who are we?

The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of Brooklyn New School (PS146) is a collaboration among parents, staff, and administration within our school community.

What does the PTA do?
The PTA serves vital community-building and fund-raising roles in our school. Through our collective efforts, and in collaboration with the Friends of BNS (the Fundraising Branch) the PTA provides funding for various programs that enrich our students’ lives and help make our school what it is, including science, the farm, Brooklyn Arts Exchange, and professional development for teachers and staff. We do this through scheduled events throughout the year that help raise money and strengthen our community. Additionally, the PTA strives to function as a home base for parents.
We consider BNS the center of our community, and the PTA is the centripetal force that draws families in. We look out for each other, noticing community needs, and doing our best to help solve problems. We keep ourselves informed of school and citywide policies, attend meetings with school and city administration, and help shape policy that aligns with our values. We acknowledge that one person’s values are not the same as another’s. We love our diverse BNS network of families, and the PTA is striving to represent our entire community. Please join us!
How can you get involved?
Your active engagement (and your donations) make this large public school into a cohesive community. There are many ways to participate: become a class parent, bake pies for the pie sale, volunteer to help run movie night, join meetings and help us hash out policies, volunteer in the library, and more. Additionally, we ask each family to give what they can in support of Friends of BNS: our goal is 100% participation, and any amount is helpful. Learn more about how you can donate monetarily or by volunteering.
To join the PTA (hint: it doesn’t take much because you are already a member), contact the PTA committee at pta2019@bns146.org.

Did you know? In 2019-2020, the PTA will spend $550/per child to support learning at Brooklyn New School.

When does the PTA meet?

The PTA meets monthly and all parents are welcome and encouraged to attend. In addition, the executive committee of the PTA meets once a month to help facilitate all the work that needs to be done. Check the BNS calendar for a full list of PTA dates.

How can you find out what’s happening?

All you have to do to stay up to date with what’s going on with the PTA is to check the weekly newsletter. It’s sent out every Sunday, and it lists PTA meetings and lots of other ways you can get involved.

Not getting the weekly newsletter? Check your Promotions folder or subscribe here.

Building our community

Not only are our events an important part of the PTA’s fundraising activities, PTA events also bring our community together in fun ways so everyone associated with BNS can show their support for our children and their teachers and be a part of something bigger. Your participation helps our children and our community grow!

Follow the PTA newsletter and school calendar to keep track of everything that’s going on.
