This is the culminating performance of a BAX program with BNS 5th graders, facilitated by José Garcia, in which they are looking at poetry and talking about moments of bigotry and bias that they’ve personally experienced and sharing ways they might interrupt and redirect these moments drawing from Augusto Boal’s Theater of the Oppressed framework. This is the second year this program has taken place. It is sponsored by the Department of Education’s Office of Arts & Special Projects through the Arts & Family Engagement grant.
The performance is in the BAX Theater and is open to the public with a suggested $5 donation (house opens at 6:15pm, show is from 6:30-8pm). There are no advance tickets sales. Amy Sumner will send out a permission slip to participating families confirming the children’s participation and travel plans to arrive and leave BAX’s space.
